Excluded from regular garbage collection shall be tires, appliances, mattresses, furniture, metal, construction debris, or other items which, in whole or in part, will not fit into a 40 gallon garbage can.   Pickup by city crews of those items shall be by special charge, based on size and weight, set by the city manager, payable in advance.

 

Vegetative Waste:

 
 

Inside City:  For pick-up of more than 4 clamp buckets full of vegetative waste per month, please contact City Hall for fees. Logs or limbs must measure less than 24 inches long and 10 inches in diameter unless by special pre-paid arrangements.

The City does not pick up vegetative waste outside the city limits.

The City accepts cash, checks, debit/credit cards and also offers an automatic payment service for drafting from an authorized checking or savings account. 

For your convenience, a drive-thru payment box is located behind City Hall.  Additionally, a payment slot is located in the front door. 

Utility bills are due on or before the 10th.  If not paid by the 10th, a 10% penalty will be added to all outstanding balances.  On the 20th day of the month, customers who have outstanding balances from a previous month will be subject to disconnection of water service.

Please note:  The City is not responsible for non-delivery of utility bills by the postal service.  If you do not receive a city utility bill by the first day of the month, please call City Hall.

  FOR UTILITY EMERGENCIES:  
 

Water Specialists are on call 24 hours per day every day hours to handle emergencies.  During regular office hours, please call City Hall at 342-0291.  After hours, call the  Police Department (342-0150).  (If your service has been disconnected for nonpayment, this will not be considered an emergency).

 
 

CITY REGULATIONS REGARDING PETS:

 

All pets must be vaccinated and pets must be micro-chipped or a city license purchased yearly.  Please contact City Hall for more information.

 

NOTICE REGARDING PROPERTY MAINTENANCE

 

ATTENTION OWNERS, AGENTS, CUSTODIANS, LESSEES AND OCCUPANTS OF REAL PROPERTY WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF MONTICELLO

You are hereby notified that you are required by law to cut and prevent the excessive accumulation of weeds, underbrush, grass or other dead and living plant life upon your improved property; to remove any trash, debris, refuse, inoperable or abandoned vehicles or appliances, or other nocuous matter located on any property owned, controlled or occupied by you in the City of Monticello; and also to repair, restore or demolish any unfit or unsafe structure located upon such property; and that upon your failure to do so, the City of Monticello will institute nuisance abatement proceedings against your property and cause such nuisance to be abated. The cost of such abatement will constitute a special assessment lien against the property on which the nuisance is located. Such special assessment lien shall be coequal with the lien of all state, county, district, and municipal taxes and superior in dignity to mortgages and all other liens, irrespective of the date of the recording of the municipal lien or the date of the recording of any mortgage or any other lien on real property. A failure to pay said lien, even such lien upon homestead property, may result in a loss of title to your property."
